AASP - American Alliance of Service Providers - ISP Association
Written by Web Master

Welcome to AASP                   May 2008 Newsletter

                                                    New AASP Business Message Care

AASP, the American Alliance of Service Providers (an association of independent Internet Service Providers),  was founded in January 2000 to unify ISP's as a group and leverage their aggregate size and resources to the common good of the membership. Although our membership is comprised of Internet Service Providers, the role of ISPs has become diverse over time and their services reflect a wide spectrum of the Internet industry -- Internet Service Providers, solutions providers, connectivity providers, hosting companies, web designers, CLEC's and other technology and Internet relevant companies. AASP is much more than a giant buying group; as it provides many resources for its ISP members. AASP's resources include information in areas such as education, legal, political, marketing, upcoming technology, forums, and the like. In fact the membership itself is one of the greatest resources available because the members share information, insights, connections and volunteer to help each other in specific areas. AASP has strategic alliances with other Internet service industry organizations whose efforts also support the common good of AASP's ISP association members.  AASP often tests new and/or upcoming technology and services to determine strengths and weakness and report that information to the Independent Internet Service Providers so they can make wise, informed decisions prior to allocating monies and resources.  We facilitate the distribution of information to the ISP association membership on matters that lobby groups need their help with. AASP keeps an eye on what is happening within the industry and addresses solutions that will help the membership achieve additional revenues, reduce churn, acquire new customers, reduce or eliminate financial loss and even excel in a rapidly changing industry.

Facebook bans Google's Friend Connect

A few days ago, Google launched a new service called Friend Connect to help website owners make their stuff social without needing to do much work. This basically involves being able to host certain gadgets that use OpenSocial on a webpage by simply copy and pasting some code from Google. One of the down-sides of this new service is the fact it's difficult to completely customize your gadgets to match, and feel tightly integrated with your website -- this is because they are always hosted in what are called "iframes" on an external domain (at Google). As a side-effect, the data stored in these frames is impossible to gather due to restrictions put in place by every modern browser. Now...

Redmond Magazine Successfully SQL Injected by Chinese Hacktivists

Irony at its best. It appears that Redmond - The Independent Voice of the Microsoft IT Community, formerly known as Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine is currently flagged as a badware site, and third-party exploit detection tools are also detecting internal pages as exploit hosting ones, in this particular case Mal/Badsrc-A. What is Mal/Badsrc-A? Mal/Badsrc-A is a malicious web page also known as HTML.XORER, that has been compromised to load a script from a malicious website. Redmond's site is part of yet another massive and naturally automated SQL injection attack, whose main malicious URL appears to be down when last checked. Who's behind it, and was Redmond's magazine targeted on purposes? Chinese hacktivists attempting to SQL inject as many sites as...

Run by Wall Street? A Cause or a Company?

Guest post: Anshu Sharma is author of Anshu's blog, which focuses on Software as a Service and the emerging SaaS Ecosystem. He is an Enterprise Irregular. In light of the Yahoo! - Microsoft fiasco, fellow bloggers Larry Dignan and Vinnie Mirchandani have been asking the question whether there is too much emphasis on just one stakeholder - the shareholder. After all, shouldn't a technology company (or any company for that matter) be equally focused on the value for customers, partners and employees. I believe that the real problem is not that of prioritization of stakeholders but a more fundamental issue: Does your company stand for something? Larry and Vinnie discussed the following in a recent conversation: Technology companies cater to...

The power of you: Siemens recognizes green efforts of three U.S. communities

I've been remiss in following up some admirable community sustainability awards that are being sponsored by Siemens in conjunction with the Business Civic Leadership Center and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. While these projects aren't strictly green technology initiatives, they ARE being pushed forward by advances in alternative energy and more energy-efficient designs for things like lightbulbs. And they ARE getting some backing by a technology company, Siemens. Three different communities were recognized as part of the inaugural awards. They were the City of Albuquerque in the Large Community, for work in conservation and clean energy production; the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, N.C., in the Midsize Community , which has created an entire blueprint for community sustainability; and the...
